MTA Malaysia 2009, which took place from 6-10 May
2009 at the Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur
has proven to be a success despite the current economic
climate. Held alongside Metaltech 2009, both the shows
attracted 900 participating companies from 30 countries
covering 25,000 sqms of exhibition space and recording
a high visitorship of 17,371 trade visitors and buyers,
clearly reflecting the healthy state of the manufacturing
industries.
MTA Malaysia 2009 had the successful participation of
key names such as Munger Machine Tool, Cotel
Precision Industries Sdn Bhd, TRUMPF Malaysia Sdn
Bhd, Faro Singapore PTE Ltd, CBN Engineering Sdn
Bhd, Italpresse Industrie, Luthy Machines, Mitsubishi
Heavy Industries (Thailand) Sdn Bhd, Hitachi via Asia
Pte Ltd, KVC Electric (M) Sdn Bhd, Tornos Technologies
Asia Ltd and many others, along with 3 national group
pavilions from Germany, Singapore and Taiwan
showcasing their latest technologies and state-of-the-art
machinery and equipment.
MTA Malaysia 2009 was honoured with the presence of
The Honourable. Dato’ Mukhriz bin Tun Dr. Mahathir,
Deputy Minister of International Trade & Industry,
Malaysia who officially launch the show followed by a
guided tour of the exhibition.
In his speech during the Opening Ceremony held on 10
May 2009, Dato’ Mukhriz shared his ministry’s plans and
aspirations on recuperating the Malaysian economy this
year, “The government has introduced a number of
measures to stimulate and fortify the manufacturing and
service sector as you may well know. The Machinery and
Equipment Industry (M&E) under the Third Industrial
Master Plan (IMP3), 2006-2020 is projected to further
expand in tandem with the continued growth of major
economic sectors – in particular the manufacturing and
agriculture sectors. There should be greater emphasis
on cutting edge technology and specialised machineries
which will allow this industry to capitalise on high quality

Sales of machineries and equipment were recorded on
Day 1 of the show itself whereby Gockel, a German
based exhibitor successfully sold two units of its grinding
machines, the G55eIT Precise and Economic Grinding
System and the RB3 Universal Circular Knife and
Surface Grinding Machine at Euro 130,000 each. This
shows the significance of the MTA series as a platform
for manufacturers in gaining maximum exposure of their
technologies in this part of the region. Following suit
from the first and second sales was another prominent
sale recorded by Tornos Technologies Asia Ltd., a
Malaysian rep office in the country.
MTA Malaysia 2009 was endorsed by Malaysia External
Trade Development Corporation (MARTRADE) and
supported by the Narional Organisation of
Standardization and Quality (SIRIM), Federation of
Malaysian Foundry and Engineering Industries
Association (FOMFEIA), The Malaysian Industrial
Development Authority (MIDA), German Machine Tool
Builders’ Association (VDW), Singapore Precision
Engineering & Tooling Association (SPETA), Taiwan
Association of Machinery Industry (TAMI) and Malaysia
Mould And Die Association (MMADA).The Singapore national group was coordinated by the Singapore Precision
Engineering And Tooling Association (SPETA). SPETA’s main objective is to
marshal and assist with the development of resources and manpower skills
essential to a sound and healthy precision engineering and tooling industry to
enhance its competitiveness and the economic development of Singapore. The
pavilion was made up of leading names known to the industry such as Caldron
Tools And Components, Dynacode Systems Pte Ltd, Gin-Sin Pte Ltd, Hankook
Singapore Pte Ltd, Intec Precision Equipment Pte Ltd, Magnum Machinery
